EHG Middle School students are involved with farming instruction and agriculture education with a local farmer. This is a real hands-on experience. Our adolescents have the opportunity to encounter farming work including: Working on the fields; weeding, planting and harvesting, cooking using the farm produce, building different projects to support the farm and the schools like: composting systems, benches, tables etc.
Earth Heart Growers created the most appropriate environment for the teenage stage of life. Our goal with this program is to give our adolescents the opportunity to experience the Ed-kinder Montessori Education in the farm.
The agriculture piece is given by a 3rd Generation local farmer, Joseph Fields. Joseph’s mentorship has inspired the likes of The Federation of Southern Cooperative, Saafon, Clemson, NRCS, South Carolina State University, Sea Island Farmers Cooperative, Lowcountry Local First’s founder Nikki George, Green Heart’s founder Drew Harrison.
The agriculture instruction is aligned with the SC standards and is closely followed by the lead teachers, while overseeing class and their academic needs.
Joseph Fields Farm with Earth Heart Growers offers a CSA system for the Schools called “The Healthy Basket”. This basket allows families and individuals to receive a fresh share of produce at their home. The CSA is managed, packaged and delivered at the schools by the students. It’s convenient and at the lowest cost!
